Today we sent a Letter to the Editor of The Trucker newspaper and we want to share it with our readers because it is vitally important that representatives of our industry respond forcefully whenever there is a negative mention of retreads. Please contact us immediately if you ever see or hear about a negative mention of retreads.We will take immediate action to rebut the negative mention. Our letter is shown below.

Dear Editor,

I am writing to take exception to the letter by Marvin Thayer published in the October 15-31, 2014 issue of The Trucker.

In part of his letter Mr. Thayer wrote " The retread hit him squarely on the helmet and knocked him backward." (Emphasis mine)

Since much of the tire debris (also known as road alligators) on our highways comes from tires that have NEVER been retreaded, Mr. Thayer's statement is unfair to the retread industry, since retreads produced today in top quality retread factories have a failure rate that is actually LOWER than comparable new tires. Unless he had 100% proof that the piece of tire debris was from a retread, it would have more fair if he had written that "The piece of tire debris hit him …"

To blame retreads for road alligators on our highways is the same as blaming a vehicle for an accident caused by a drunk driver. The blame is simply misplaced.
