Dear reader,

What follows is another reply, shown below, regarding Casing Grading, forwarded to us by one of our RTA members. We will continue to send additional replies if and when they arrive.

Casing Selling Specifications:2016

A GRADE:                  Dot # within 5 years

                                    No major repair / nail hole ok in tread area only

                                    No sidewall cuts or scuffing

                                    No bead damage

                                    No sidewall cracking

                                    No exposed steel in tread area

B GRADE:                 
                                     Can only have ONE  of the following:

                                     Dot # within 8 years with same specs as A grade

                                    No more than 2 sidewall cuts

                                    Slight sidewall scuffing

                                    One small bead repair

                                    Slight sidewall cracking

                                    Quarter size area of exposed steel in tread area

R1 GRADE:               
                                   Can only have TWO of the following:
                                  
                                   Dot # within 8 years- recapped only once

                                    No major repair / nail hole ok in tread area only

                                    Slight sidewall scuffing

                                    One small bead repair

                                    Slight sidewall cracking

                                    No exposed steel

MAJOR BRANDS:    Michelin-Bridgestone-Goodyear

MIXED BRANDS:      All others except  Chinese , East European and Korean

C/E/K:             Chinese, , East European and Ko
