Our good friend Jean-Francois Marquis of RTA member Techno Pneu, Inc. (CANADA) sent us the following negative mention about retreads, which appeared in a French language newspaper, Journal de Montreal, distributed to approximately 2 million readers throughout Canada. Jean-Francois' email to us is shown below, followed by our letter to the editor of the Journal de Montreal. PLEASE NOTE: The original article was printed in French. We highlighted the negative mention in English. Also, the article shown below has omitted a few paragraphs that had nothing to do with retreads.

Your profile

The worst choice
Chinese concept of tires are much cheaper, but if we think in the medium and long term, this is not a profitable investment. The noise gives the impression of being in the subway. The handling is not the best either. Choose a good quality and they will last at least four years.
A tire refurbished is made to run at 100 km / h and is not really safe because it can deform and even explode. NOTE  FROM HARVEY: I HIGHLIGHTED THE ABOVE IN YELLOW, AND THE WORD "refurbished"SHOULD BE "retreaded."

Seek the advice of an expert
Some, to save, will choose 16-inch tires for winter and 17 inches for the summer. You receive the expert advice to avoid vibrations in the steering wheel and choose the correct width to prevent premature wear.
Buy rims
Having your tires on rims saves to install and it's better for the tires. Always rotate, which will even wear.
Pressure sensors
If your vehicle has a tire pressure sensor, you have to be careful. Make them change by certified people who know the product, which will avoid some security systems fail in the task.
Save by buying online
You can shop online, but be careful that the price includes the shipping, taxes and customs clearance. Remember that there must be the symbol of the mountain overhung flake. Installation can be more expensive though.
Watch for postal discounts
In the fall, manufacturers often offer mail-in rebates of $ 70 for four tires, which can lower the bill and give you the chance to have a good quality at good prices. Some, like Médé Tires, offer immediate additional discount of $ 25 to $ 70 for four tires if you book before October 15.

We take a strong rebuttal to the statement by Lili Marchand, "A tire refurbished is made to run at 100 km/h and is not really safe because it can deform and even explode." that appeared on Friday, September 18, 2015 in The Journal of Montreal. This statement is NOT based on facts and is not only untrue, but is harmful to an industry that prides itself on producing retreaded tires that are not only more environmentally friendly and economical than higher priced new tires, but have an overall LOWER failure (adjustment) rate than higher priced new tires.
 
Retreaded tires (what Ms. Marchand calls refurbished tires) are safely used by millions of vehicles worldwide, including Canada, where Canada Post has been safely using retreaded tires on their vehicles for many years in all kinds of weather, as well as Purolator and other small package delivery services who also routinely and safely use retreaded tires on their delivery vehicles throughout Canada.
