"Carbon Footprint" has become the flavor of the month when speaking to those in the environmental community, but when pushed to the wall, most cannot specifically define exactly what is meant by the term.

One can spend a great deal of time (as I have) reading the many articles about Carbon Footprint found on GOOGLE, and after all is said and done the conclusion that must be drawn is that any measure that reduces the carbon footprint is a good thing.

What does that mean?

Simply, when we speak about tires it means that a retreaded tire is FAR MORE FRIENDLY towards the environment than a comparable new tire, and the larger the tire, the greater the positive impact on the environment.

But what about safety?

Are retreaded tires as safe as comparable new tires for your equipment? The answer is an UNQUALIFIED YES! Regardless of the terrain where members of the Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association's trucks travel, you can be certain the retreads offer exactly the same amount of safety for your drivers and others as any brand of new tires.

O.K, so they are safe? How about performance?

Here's the good news. A tire that is retreaded by a top quality retreader – the only kind you should do business with – will perform exactly the same as a more expensive new tire, and often, will outperform the new tire. The reason for this is because the retreader will know more about your exact usage and can tailor the treads for your particular operation.

So what's the bottom line?

If you have a serious concern in doing the right thing for the environment, and you want to reduce the carbon footprint of the tires on your large equipment, you can't do better than using retreads. As you already know, tires represent a very large expense in operating your fleet of vehicles – whether it is a fleet of one truck or one hundred. By having your tires retreaded you can do both well and good.
